September 25, 2011 – Crime #866

Crime Stoppers of Lewis County, Lewis County Sheriff’s Office, and Lewis County Public Health Department are seeking your assistance with reporting illegal tire dumping, which is a serious issue facing Lewis County.

Tire dumping and stockpiles are not only an eyesore; they pose an environmental, public safety, and health threat. Because of their shape, scrap tires can collect water and debris, which creates a breeding and feeding habitat for insects and rodents carrying diseases such as West Nile Virus.

Burning tires can release hazardous chemicals into the air, water, and soil. Tire fires are difficult to extinguish and expensive to clean up. Cleaning up even the smallest dump can cost you, the taxpayer, a lot of money!

If you have any information about tire dumping or any other crime, DON’T DELAY!  CALL RIGHT AWAY!!  Crime Stoppers will pay up to $1,000 for information leading to the clearance of this crime or any other crime.  Call CRIME STOPPERS at 1-800-748-6422 or report online.
