Crime Stoppers of Lewis County and the law enforcement agencies in Lewis County are seeking the public’s assistance for the person(s) responsible for stealing copper wire, aluminum and/or material’s that can be recycled for profit. Over the past two years law enforcement has been seeing a rise of theft’s of recyclable metal materials. The suspected thieves are stealing materials from construction sites, government property, businesses, and to the aluminum irrigation pipes from a farmer’s field. The suspects involved in this criminal activity tend to cut the material into scraps prior to taking the material to be recycled. The money obtained from the trafficking of stolen property is often used to purchase METHAMPHETAMINE. Your local law enforcement is requesting you to be suspicious of people in possession of these materials and/or burning wires to obtain the raw metals. The total loss to victims’ and taxpayers are several thousands of dollars and the money obtained fuels the epidemic of methamphetamine in our communities.
